Mission Statement

The Valley Home Educators (VHE) exists to serve as a steady source of encouragement and support to local home educating families in Harrisonburg, Rockingham County, and surrounding areas by providing members with fellowship, connection, and resources, as well as social, educational, and outreach opportunities.

Statement of Faith

1. We believe the Bible to be inspired by the Holy Spirit, the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God (2 Timothy 3:15; 2 Peter 1:21).

2. We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1-2; Matthew 28:19; John 10:30).

3. We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is God the Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin; His sinless life; His miracles; His vicarious and atoning death; His resurrection; His ascension to the right hand of God the Father where He intercedes for His people; and His personal, visible return in power and glory (Acts 1:11; Revelation 19:11, Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:35; Hebrews 4:15, 7:26, John 2:11; Isaiah 53:4-6; 1 Peter 2:24; Ephesians 1:7; John 11:25; 1 Corinthians 15:4; Mark 16:19; Hebrews 7:25).

4. We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of human nature; and that men are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ, and that only by God’s grace and through faith alone we are saved (John 3:16-19; 5:24; Romans 3:23; 5:8-9; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:5).

5. We believe that God wonderfully creates each person as male or female; that the Bible condemns any form of sexual immorality, and that Christians must adhere to and practice biblical standards of morality. Moral misconduct includes, but is not necessarily limited to, promiscuity, homosexuality, bisexuality, polygamy, and transgenderism. (Exodus 20:14; Leviticus 18:7–23; 20:10–21; Deuteronomy 5:18; Matthew 5:27–28; 15:19; Romans 1:21-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9-20).

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of VHE is:

1. To foster understanding by parents of the God-given responsibilities for the education of their children.

2. To encourage those who are educating children at home.

3. To provide a forum for the exchange of practical ideas and information relating to the training of children.

4. To provide a vehicle for scheduling group activities which enhance the education and social development of our children.

5. To aid the parent in his understanding of and his exercising of his constitutionally guaranteed rights and provisions of VA law.

6. To preserve spontaneity of initiative by individuals in VHE, resulting in growth and effectiveness of the organization.

7. It is not the purpose of VHE to provide legal counsel: such counsel is to be sought elsewhere.

This is the purpose of VHE as stated in the original Constitution for VHE, Article II.
